International Divorce

Dissolution of marriage matters lie on a spectrum from amicable to hostile, yet in all events having an experienced attorney on your side enables you to understand your rights and obligations. At Family Law International, our goal is to assist our clients in reaching an equitable and expeditious resolution to divorce proceedings. Whether the means is negotiation, mediation, or litigation, we will discuss with you, our client, your needs, concerns, responsibilities, and desired outcome.

With the increasing number of marriages between people from different countries, there are often cultural and social differences that make it hard for one spouse to live in a foreign country. In addition, with the increasing globalized world economy, people are more mobile than ever, often moving to a country far away from home.

International divorces require understanding and consideration of the laws of more than one country: matters of residency, domicile, property ownership, tax, immigration, responsibility for payment of debt, and custody may all arise.  At Family Law International we have relationships with attorneys world wide to assist in building an expert legal team to meet our clients’ needs.

Often, custody matters are the most fraught with complexity and emotion. What happens when one parent wants to move to a different country? Or a parent may want to go back home, to his/her country of origin. Maybe in these circumstances a parent has been given permission by the other parent to do so, and take the children. At Family Law International we have expertise in these matters, and can assist our client in avoiding an allegation of  “child abduction.”

Custody matters must be resolved with sensitivity and care to the needs of the child(ren). We will guide our clients in doing so, and assist in laying the foundation for a co-parenting relationship that will meet the best interests of the children in a divorce.
